A story is told of a scorpion and a tortoise who were facing a swollen river. The scorpion begged the tortoise to carry him across. "I can't take you on my back," the tortoise replied. "You'd sting me." "Why would I do that?" the scorpion wanted to know.

It can be easy to forget that all profanity, rumors and dirty jokes are evil. But we are cautioned by Solomon: "The fear of the Lord is to hate evil; pride and arrogance and the evil way and the perverse mouth I hate" (v. 13). To love God is to hate evil words.

"Do not hesitate to work for the Lord because you think you can do but little. Do your little with fidelity; for God will work with your efforts....Your talents will increase as you use them for the Master, and they will be esteemed precious by Him who has bought them with an infinite price. Do not sit down and neglect to do anything, simply because you cannot do some great thing, but do whatever your hands find to do, with thoroughness and energy...." Messages to Young People.
